RIVER BOAT
RIVER BOAT
I was fortunate to participate in a residency at Anderson Ranch Art Center in Colorado. During that time, I created and deployed a few works that not only drew their inspiration from the environment but used the environment to create the works. These sculptures all have a kinetic element. In this case the movement of the floating boat form on a river.
River boat is sculpture that houses an etching plate. The movement upon the plate from stones leaves an imprint which I later etched deeper in the plate with an acid. Each plate represents a 24-hour period of the boat’s movements on the river, a record of time and its movements. I particularly like the use of a traditional craft technique vs. a digital technique. In this case intaglio printmaking where the plate is etched, and the ink sits in the grooves and lines created.
